The Best Operating System For Hosting: Windows Vs Linux!

Unless you want to delve into the details, you may not want to deal with the differences between Windows and Linux hosting. Since most companies are inclined to opt for shared hosting plans, very few actually bother to delve any deeper to get to the fundamental elements. Many don’t even want to know if Linux is better than Windows or vice versa. Given the widespread use of templates and the easy availability of a plethora of tools, plug-ins and apps, the dependence on specific software is on the decline.
It is difficult to say if Windows is better than Linux or vice versa. If you ask website designers or developers, graphic designers and system administrators or even programmers, they would vouch for Linux. It is not just the fact that Linux is free and hence more affordable for any and sundry but also the elements of security and efficiency. Linux is an operating system that works very well for servers and for those who are working with different programming languages. Windows has its shortcomings in these departments. Windows was not primarily designed or developed for servers. It was an operating system targeted for personal computers. You may have noticed that people prefer Mac operating systems when it comes to work. It is a similar case with Windows where Linux is more preferred for servers.
Windows works really well in personal computers and even on laptops. But even then OS has made its way into desktops and laptops in a big way over the last two decades. However, Windows remains to be the most popular operating system in the world going by the sheer number of users. Coming back to the operating system for hosting, there is one conscious decision you need to make. There are some Windows applications that will not run on Linux based servers or hosting solutions. Linux usually works for all open source and third party apps. But it would not support exclusive Windows based applications. These aren’t many in number and there are alternatives but it depends on what you intend to use for developing your website.
Most hosting companies will offer both Linux and Windows based hosting solutions. You can check the differences and make an informed decision. There will be very little or no differences in price. So you may be inclined to choose Linux for a slightly enhanced security. You may stick to Windows if some applications are more important. Windows too doesn’t support some applications that Linux supports.
